Hello!
I’m Becca. I’m a self-taught artist who came to the visual arts (comparatively) late in life, but now I’ve found my home. I live in an old farm house in New Hampshire and use things from my local environment as canvases, like retired windows and abandoned wood.
After years of obsessively trying to find and define my niche, the closest I’ve come is falling in love. I love the bottomless possibilities of cold wax acrylic painting–the intuitive process of building a painting layer-by-layer while exploring the power and simplicity of form. I love that so much remains unseen, a perfect metaphor for the strangeness and delight of what it means to be human together.
As a storyteller, I’ve also fallen in love with the wonder and aliveness of children’s literature. Over time, my MFA in Writing has shape-shifted into a delight for drawing and writing for children, an audience whose interests and curiosities most closely align with my own. I’m currently at work on an early middle grade novel on my favorite theme: stories of animals with big hearts and ferocious wanting.
When I’m not making things, you can find me roaming the woods of New England with my husband and two dogs, playing folk music, and reading at least three books at the same time.
